S.Q-Mefemic(Mefenamic Acid) Uses:

Mefenamic Acid capsules is the generic form of the brand-name drug S.Q-Mefemic, a drug indications are for mild and moderate pain, such as pain after dental, obstetric or orthopedic surgery, as well as soft tissue injury pain and bone and joint pain. In addition, it is also used for dysmenorrhea, vascular headache and cancer pain.

Side effect:

  • Gastrointestinal reactions are more common, such as abdominal discomfort, stomach burning sensation, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and indigestion. In severe cases can cause peptic ulcers.
  • Others Mental depression, dizziness, headache, irritability, blurred vision, excessive sweating, shortness of breath, difficulty sleeping, etc., allergic skin rash are rare.

Warning:

  • Allergic to this product and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are disabled
  • Inflammatory bowel disease are disabled
  • Active peptic ulcer are disabled
  • Cross-allergies Allergy to aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may have a cross-allergic reaction to this product. For asthma patients who are allergic to aspirin, this product can also cause bronchospasm.
  • This product should be taken after meals or with food to reduce the gastrointestinal tract irritation.
  • This product is not suitable for long-term use. Generally, each course of medication should not exceed 7 days.
  • If diarrhea and skin rash occur during treatment, the drug should be discontinued promptly.
  • Tumor patients with chemotherapy should be used cautiously, as they can increase gastrointestinal and renal toxicity and inhibit platelet function.
  • Interference with laboratory tests Serum urea nitrogen and potassium concentrations can be elevated, prothrombin time can be extended, serum transaminases can be increased.

Interactions:

  • When drinking alcohol or with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, increase the gastrointestinal side effects and have the risk of causing ulcers. Long-term use with acetaminophen can increase the toxic side effects on the kidneys.
  • When used with aspirin or other salicylates, the drug efficacy did not increase, and the incidence of gastrointestinal adverse reactions and bleeding tendency increased.
  • When used with anticoagulants such as heparin and dicoumarol and platelet aggregation inhibitors, they increase the risk of bleeding.
  • When used in conjunction with furosemide, the latter’s sodium excretion and antihypertensive effect diminished.
  • When used with verapamil and nifedipine, the blood concentration of this product increases.
  • This product can increase the concentration of digoxin blood, with the use of time to pay attention to adjust the dose of digoxin.
  • This product can enhance the role of oral anti-diabetic drugs.
  • When the product is used with antihypertensive drugs, it can affect the latter’s antihypertensive effect.
  • Probenecid can reduce the excretion of this product, increase the plasma concentration, thereby increasing the toxicity, so it should be reduced with the dose of the product.
  • This product can reduce the excretion of methotrexate, increase its blood concentration, and even up to the level of poisoning, so this product should not be the same as with methotrexate or large doses.
